President Lech Kaczynski of the Republic of Poland and former

President in exile Ryszard Kaczorowski died in plane crash in Russia.

President Kaczynski had been travelling with the Polish delegation to Russia for the 70th anniversary of the massacre of Polish prisoners of war in the village of Katyn. Over 20,000 Polish officers were executed there during World War II.

This is a time of national mourning.

This is a time of great national tragedy.
